Europe's oldest spa town with viticulture
Wiesbaden is situated just a short drive away from airport Frankfurt at the river Rhine and the gateway to Rheingau, the famous wine growing district nearby.
The charming city is known for the spa atmosphere and already the Romans were the first who used the hot springs to build bath houses. Already during the 19th century Wiesbaden was internationally known for the hot springs and bath houses.
In the historic quarter you find pretty frame houses and elegant manors. However, the main attraction is the Kurhaus. This fascinating “society house” was built in the beginning of the 19th century and established rapidly as a center for cultural events and international congresses. Especially known was the Kurhaus for concerts and gambling. The casino is still opened to audience – as long as the dress code is proper.
Wiesbaden is a perfect starting point for excursions into the unique region of Rheingau, which is famous for its wines, manor houses and castles as well as the fascinating view over the valley.
Besides, Wiesbaden is a suitable domicile during fairs in Frankfurt if you want to avoid the hectic atmosphere in the big city.
