The special meteorological conditions directly on the River Rhine and the soil offers the best conditions for a great Riesling– the tasteful white wine from the region that is known worldwide. Wine culture has influenced the Rheingau throughout the centuries. After the Romans it was the monks who started with wine-growing outside their monasteries and laid the foundation of Riesling Wine popularity, the most famous one is Kloster Eberbach, which impresses visitors with its medieval architecture.

The cultural landscape is characterized by romatic vineyards and quaint little villages. The whole area bears a touch of wine production with wine festivals, castles, fortresses and monasteries. Drosselgasse in Rüdesheim is known throughout the world for its wine taverns and souvenir shops, as well as traditional food.
