Oktoberfest

The Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest and a combination of beer festival and funfair. Annually held in Munich, it is a folk festival running from late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, taking place since 1810.

During Oktoberfest the city center of Munich is full of visitors from all over the world and the city boasts of joyful people. Many Bavarians and visitors dress up in traditional Bavarian costumes like Lederhose or Dirndl to contribute to this very special atmosphere.
The festival is held in an area named the Theresienwiese often called Wiesn for short, located near Munich’s centre. Large quantities of Oktoberfest beer are consumed, with more than 7.7 million liters served during the 16-day festival. Visitors may also enjoy a mixture of attractions, such as amusement rides, sidestalls and games, as well as a wide variety of traditional food such as Hendl (roast chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), and many others. The fair grounds are open from 10 am to midnight.

The festival is open to the public and there are no entrance fees charged entering the grounds for a stroll, amusement rides or eating specialties at one of the many stands. Nevertheless, one of the most attracting highlights of the festival are the many beer tents, which are hosted by Munich’s largest and most traditional breweries . Beer is served by the liter and so is typical Bavarian food. Live brass bands are playing traditional Bavarian music as well as more up-to-date music. Hundreds of people from all over the world dance and sing along and have a great time.

More than 14 large tents with a capacity of up to 7.500 people per tent invite for a fun afternoon or evening. Additionally, some smaller tents invite with a more quiet and traditional atmosphere. The opening hours of the tents vary, but overall, most opening times are on weekdays from 12pm, on weekends from 10am with a closing time at around 22:30pm.

The big challenge is to get a seat in the tents, as guests are only served when having a table. The tents are open to the public and normally everyone can come in. However, if the tents are full, the waiting lines outside of the tents usually get quite long. Therefore, all tents reserve a certain amount of tables for a specific time slot, so that clients avoid waiting lines and get a guaranteed space. Still, the demand is very high during the evening and on weekends.

An alternative to the tents at the Octoberfest is the “Wiesnzelt” at Stiglmaierplatz in the famous Löwenbräukeller pub, an event that offers live band and DJ – all in one place and guaranteed without closing time! The “Wiesnzelt” at Stiglmaierplatz is just 2km from the “Theresienwiese” where the Oktoberfest takes place. Table reservation, also on the weekends is more likely here for groups and one can stay longer than in the Oktoberfest tents.

Motorsport

Many international motor sport events take place in Germany and Austria and gather speed enthusiast from all over the world. The spirit of competition, the roaring engines and the braveness of the drivers are a very special event for spectators and fans. Exact dates can be requested for any of the events; tickets and hospitality programs can be organized for all below mentioned and other events.

Formula 1

Since 1950, Formula 1 has been the ultimate test of man and machine and the pinnacle of motorsport. Worldwide racing events thrill audiences all over the world and the participating teams bring up new and exciting moments and stories during their tour on five continents.

The legendary Hockenheimring ist the host of the German Grand Prix, located south of Heidelberg in south Germany. The closest airport is Frankfurt International airport.

In Austria, the racing circuit of Spielberg is actually host of the race. The track is located close to the city of Graz, but can easily be reached from Vienna International airport.

Even though not in Germany, the circuit of the Belgian Grand Prix taking place in Spa-Francorchamps is only located 60 km from the city of Aachen, which is a perfect starting point for exiting racing days.

DTM

The DTM can look back on a long, exciting racing history. The first race of the ‘Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft’ (German Touring Car Championship), back in 1984, still was contested by close-to-production touring cars. In the following years, DTM increased its internationality and its significance. Many of the drivers who left their marks on the series have become legends, today, such as Klaus Ludwig, Keke Rosberg, Mika Häkkinen and Hans-Joachim Stuck.

Today, 10 teams from Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW take the challenge. The race takes place in different circuits in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Russia. The Highlight of the season of course is the final, taking place in October in Hockenheim racing circuit.

WRC / ADAC Rallye Deutschland

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) pits drivers and production-based cars against some of the toughest and most varied conditions on the planet. Established in 1973, the WRC is widely regarded as the most challenging motorsport championship in the world. Today, the roads on this epic motorsport adventure are spread across 15 countries, with 13 rallies on everything from snow packed forest tracks to rock-strewn mountain passes.

In Germany, the rally usually takes place in in the months of august in the city of Trier. The area offers a beautiful surrounding along the river Moselle, known for its great white wines and for its romantic landscape.

Moto GP Sachsenring

MotoGP is the premier motorcycle racing World Championship; an eighteen-race series visiting fourteen countries, four continents and with pan-global television coverage. Eight nationalities of the world’s most skilled riders line a grid armed with cutting-edge motorcycle technology.

The MotoGP in Germany takes place at Sachsenring racing circuit, located between the cities of Zwickau, Leipzig and Dresden. It can be reached via Frankfurt International airport, Berlin or even Prague airport. The MotoGP at Sachsenring usually takes place in July.

Martin Luther

In 2017 it will be 500 years since Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg. Although there is no historical proof of this happening, it was an event that changed the world.

Martin Luther was born into a time of tension and conflict, now recognized as the transitional period between the Middle Ages and the Modern Ages. As an Augustinian monk, he rebelled against the papal sale of indulgences and his actions set off a chain reaction throughout Europe although it was not his intention. Luther’s influence went beyond the religious sphere, for example, his translation of the Bible contributed greatly to a uniform written German language, also because of the invention of printing.

Following the great reformers life in Germany, means visiting cities and villages which have beyond Martin Luther a great history and culture to offer.

Born in 1483 in Eisleben and growing up in Magdeburg, Luther has left many traces in Germany, of which the cities Eisleben, Erfurt, Wittenberg and Eisenach are the most important ones. Some of these cities carry the official name Lutherstadt, which signifies the importance of his influence.

Lutherstadt Eisleben
Luther’s birth town is located in the Harz Mountains, a copper slate mining centre since the middle age and also once the biggest city between Harz and the river Elbe. Today, the city has a well-preserved old town with many sights, of which the most important ones are the birth house of Martin Luther and his baptism church St. Anna.

Erfurt
here he began in 1501 to study law, before he turned to become an Augustine friar in 1505 and studied further on Theology. The city still has many medieval and traditional buildings; the most important one is the gothic dome St. Marien. There are many other highlights in the city, including the Augustinian Monastery with Luther’s cell.

Lutherstadt Wittenberg
Luther lived and worked most of his lifetime in Wittenberg from 1512 and was professor at the university. Here, he developed his 95 thesis and nailed them at the door of the castle church of Wittenberg in October 1517. Today, the city is UNESCO world heritage and hosts Luther’s house in the former Augustinian Monastery and many other places of interest.

Every year, thousands of visitors witness the historic moment of June 13th in 1525 – the date on which Martin Luther, the former monk, and Katharina von Bora, an escaped nun, got married in Wittenberg. Since more than 20 years the city reminds of Luther’s wedding with an annual festival and parades on this date with visitors from all over the world.

Eisenach and Wartburg
in 1521 Luther had to escape from the papal ban released in the Edict of Worms and found refuge in the Wartburg, where he translated the bible into German. Today, the Wartburg from the 12th century is UNESCO cultural world heritage and a German monument as well. It testifies impressively medieval and romantic architecture and life culture of this time.

Eisenach is also the native town of Sebastian Bach and has the world’s largest Bach museum with authentic living rooms and an existing exhibition about the famous composer. In Eisenach cars have been built for over 100 years from 1899, when the first Wartburg rolled off line, which is witnessed by an exhibition with historic vehicles, studies and prototypes.
