Mainz: Classic Program

Historic city of letterpress

Mainz is a 2000 year old city in the south west of Germany, where the River Main joins with the River Rhine. Wiesbaden is located just across the Rhine and is only a bridge crossing away. Thanks to its proximity to the financial metropolis of Frankfurt and the international airport, Mainz is easily accessible.

The spirit of invention has a long tradition in Mainz: Johannes Gutenberg and letterpress printing belong to Mainz like Mozart to Salzburg. His millennium invention is still honored today in numerous monuments and museums that can be explored on the so-called “Gutenberg Trail”.

Despite its relatively small size, Mainz offers a magnificently restored old town with small streets and large squares which are not only full of boutiques and stores, but also a popular destination for pubs and wine bars in the city´s nightlife.

Besides Cologne, Mainz is also the carnival stronghold in the country. A visit is worthwhile not only because of this but also because of the cozy wine taverns and the extremely good selection of restaurants.
