Where to go next? 4 Recommendations from our Employees

Summer is coming closer and we are slowly wakening from our winter sleep. To give you some inspiration for your next trip, we have asked our project managers about their favourite destinations in Germany and Austria. They will tell you how to have a great time and share some secret tips with you!

Katrin, our Senior Project Manager and Accounting & Office Manager in Hamburg:

My favorite destination in Germany is Rostock because it is a cosy university town whose old town has a special flair. There are small boutiques and special restaurants that invite you to linger.

I like to go there both during summer and winter. Around Christmas, there is a Christmas market in the old town which has a special atmosphere, in summer you can sit on the banks of the Warnow and watch the sailing yachts go on their trips.

My favorite activity at the destination is any kind of water sports. You definitely need to take a little trip to Warnemünde. There is a wonderful sandy beach right on the Baltic Sea with a great view of the large cruise ships and ferries that dock here.

My secret tip for you is taking the small ferry from Warnemünde over the Warnow to the other bank called Hohe Düne. Here, you will find a wild dune landscape and a lonely sandy beach.

Finn, our Senior Project Manager in Hamburg:

My favorite destination in Germany is Flensburg because it is not too big, not too small. It has a cosy old town, a nice harbour as well as quite a lot of beaches and nature close by.

I like to go there in summer to combine some shopping, good food near the harbour and to spend time at the Baltic Sea. My favorite activity at the destination is taking a walk along the harbour and swimming in the Baltic sea. You definitely need to visit the old town, the historic harbour and the local brewery, Flensburger Pilsner brewery.

My secret tip for you is to taste a fish bun at “Ben’s Fischütte” at the historical harbour. Probably the best fish bun in the whole Flensburg area.

Maika, our Senior Project Manager in Berlin:

My favorite destination in Germany is Dresden with Saxony Switzerland because of the unique combination of city life at the “Florence of the Elbe” and outdoor experience!

I like to go there in autumn, as nature is particularly beautiful that time of the year and it is not as crowded. My favorite activity at the destination is hiking in the unique Elbe Sandstone National Park with its beautiful rocks, canyons and gorges. You definitely need to explore the historic old town of Dresden with the famous Zwinger and Frauenkirche as well as the trendy and young district Neustadt. Have a local dinner and enjoy local beer at one of the cosy brewery houses such as Feldschlösschen Brauerei. Enjoy the wine region around Dresden with Schloss Wackerbarth, its wines and sparkling wines. Discover Festung Königsstein, one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe.

My secret tip for you is Kirnitzschtalbahn, a small tramway in the national park. Since 1898 it has been transporting hikers and tourists to their destinations. For about 8 kilometers it accompanies the Kirnitzsch river on its course through the bizarre rocky world of the national park.

Boris, our Senior Project Manager in Vienna:

My favorite destination in Austria is Baden near Wien because it is a cosy small town south of Vienna with old imperial flair, located in the middle of a wine growing region.

I like to go there in autumn for hiking, dining and wine tasting. My favourite activity at the destination is to visit the Roman thermal bath in Baden. You definitely need to go there in early autumn when they build up the longest Heurigen in the world. On a 10km long path through the wonderful vineyards, you can visit one wine producer from the region after the other, taste the wines and eat some delicacies. Don’t worry, you won’t walk a lot until you found the perfect place to enjoy a warm autumn evening at the campfire with good wine and really unique atmosphere.

My secret tip for you is to visit Stift Heiligenkreuz, just around the corner, with the monks singing Gregorian Chants.
