Hamburg

With a population of nearly 1.85 million people, the “Free and Hanseatic City” of Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the economic and cultural center of Northern Germany.

The port of Hamburg, located on the Elbe river, is one of the largest and most modern ports in Europe and important for both, container and cruise ships. From here, the interesting harbour tours start as well as the bus-ferries that brings visitors to the Musicals on the other side of the river.

Hamburg´s cityscape is shaped by its close connection to the water and has more bridges than Amsterdam and Venice combined. Therefore, it is not surprising that many activities take place on or around the water, such as the annual harbor birthday, international cruise days or the famous fish market. Furthermore the riverbeach is worth a visit where cafes invite for a drink and to gaze the giant cargo ships or a stroll along the Außenalster lake with its magnificent city villas.

The Alster and its Jungfernstieg in the city center are one of the most popular meeting places for tourists and locals. Here one can find many shopping possibilities and malls with a huge variety of international and local brands.

The famous Reeperbahn is now a popular nightlife and red-light district with a variety of restaurants, pubs and bars.

The Northern German metropolis is also known for its architecture: The Speicherstadt is the largest warehouse district in the world and is part of the HafenCity, which has mostly been transformed into a new area for living and working. Especially the concert hall Elbphilharmonie is one of the numerous architectural highlights that can be found there.
